Noble De Best puts best foot forward

An upset victory for Noble De Best and trainer Gary Ng Ting-keung was not the result many Triple Trio players wanted to see in the first leg, but the trainer could not have been happier to see his five-year-old break his duck in the Peridot Handicap (1,400m) under the guidance of Eddie Lai Wai-ming. 'I think this horse still has a little improvement in him and it was really great to see him jump well,' Ng said. 'His main problem has always been jumping out of the gates late, and for a one-paced horse that has been his downfall. 'But he jumped well from an awkward gate today and got a more forward position, and he did well to fight off the other horse and win.' Tony Millard's ever-consistent High Intelligent was once again relegated to a minor placing and was beaten a nose on the line, with fellow professional placegetter Sohna from the Sean Woods yard running on down the centre of the track to finish 21/4 lengths away in third.
