Jockey Club aims to air soccer matches
The Jockey Club is to offer free broadcasts of soccer matches on its website to 1,000 lucky punters, in a trial programme.
From Thursday, the chosen 'soccer-betting customers' will be able to watch live broadcasts of some games which have not been selected for airing by local paid and free-to-air television channels, a club spokesman said yesterday.
He said the Jockey Club aims to fill the vacuum by providing video streaming of unaired games.
'Our main concern is to strengthen information on soccer matches, not to draw more gamblers,' he said.
And the only licensed gambling operator in the city said it had no idea whether it would charge viewers, or how much, for the service. It will first have to study feedback from the trial run, which will run until the end of the year.
The online video streaming service will be supplied by an overseas company.
The first online match planned is a Copa Libertadores clash on Thursday.
The text match commentaries on the club's website will also be strengthened. Real-time postings of scores in all matches in the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, German Bundesliga, Italian Serie A, Uefa Champions League, and Uefa Europa League will be available.
