The Lightning Thief is lighting up the silver screen, reworking Greek myths for the new millennium. Now there's an RPG for the Nintendo DS based on the movie and book.
In Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief for the NDS, gamers take command of Percy and his allies in a modern hero's quest of mythic proportions. The game will have you battling Medusa, Hydra, and the frightening Minotaur.
As in the book and the movie, gamers will hone their skills at Camp Half-Blood and then go on an odyssey that will take them from New York to Hollywood. Players will descend into the depths of hell to rescue Percy's mother and walk through the sacred halls of Olympus to face the ancient Greek gods.
Gamers can earn upgrades, and customise each character to fit their battle style and strategy, as in a typical RPG. Levelling up will unlock new abilities and powers, while defeating monsters will earn you drachmas that can be used to boost characters' special abilities.
Game play is very simple and easy to pick up, thanks to a very user-friendly interface. Battles use a simplified real-time system that allows you to cast spells, use items and attack opponents once a bar at the top of the screen has been filled.
Damage by monsters can also be reduced with well-timed taps on the touch screen. These can reduce the destructive effect by up to 50 per cent. Team and critical attacks can also be boosted to create extra damage, by tracing shapes and dragging the pen on the touch screen.
