Sacai

Who started it? Sacai was founded in 1999 by Japanese designer Chitose Abe, who had worked for Junya Watanabe and Comme des Gar?ons for more than eight years. She has won numerous accolades, including being named designer of the year 2009 by the Fashion Editors Club of Japan. Her line is stocked at prestigious boutiques such as Dover Street Market, in London, and Colette, in Paris. She also designs menswear and lingerie. This season, Abe has collaborated with Moncler on a capsule collection.

Why we love it: Abe's designs are unusual and experimental while still being timeless, elegant and chic. Rather than focus on trends, her quirky designs fuse textures and fabrics while exploring volumes and dimensions. She takes basic and classic items such as the cardigan and combines them with unexpected elements, such as a coat collar, for example. Abe creates unusual shapes and silhouettes by reinterpreting patterns. Folds, twists and other feminine details make her pieces hip yet wearable.

What we'd pick: the white dotted sleeveless dress (right; HK$13,300) is sexy but feminine thanks to the ruffles. The black sleeveless beaded dress (far right; HK$9,900) is a cool take on the T-shirt dress, with draping on one side, a high-neck collar and black bead embellishments.

Where can you get it? Sacai is available at Joyce, 16 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2810 1120.
