Cabbie held for dangerous driving

A 25-year-old taxi driver was arrested yesterday for dangerous driving after his vehicle hit a 68-year-old man in Sham Shui Po. The man was crossing Nam Cheong Street near Ki Lung Street at about 11am when the taxi hit him. He was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital with serious head injuries and died later. Police said the driver passed a breath test but was suspected of dangerous driving. He was released on HK$5,000 bail and has to report back to police at the end of March.

Man arrested for drug-driving

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Yuen Long for driving under the influence of drugs. Police said the man was driving a car in Yuen Long Road towards Sheung Shui when stopped by patrolling officers for a traffic offence near the roundabout in Shap Pat Heung. He passed a breath test but admitted to the officer that he had taken a drug before driving. The man was sent to Poi Oi Hospital and was later released on HK$5,000 bail.

Teachers in protest march

More than 120 primary teachers marched to the Central Government Offices to demand the Education Bureau make all 700 small-class-teaching contracts permanent positions. The bureau said earlier it would extend the contracts for 300 of these positions for a year when their two-year term expires in July.
