Cheyne takes advantage of cheap lead

Greg Cheyne hadn't ridden a winner since setting a blistering course record on Sweet Sanette at Happy Valley on February 10. While not breaking any records yesterday, Cheyne was again able to go to the front and dictate terms on improving Public Figure. 'I said to his owners early not to expect too much too soon, the horse is only three years old and needed time, but I did go into race thinking he could finish in the first three,' Cheyne said. 'Every run he has been grinding away, he's honest, and when they let me get to the front and run at my own speed like that, I knew he would go close. He will be better next season, but he is racing well and I wouldn't be surprised if he could win again before the end of the season.' Public Figure held off Fun Rider to score by a nose, with outsider Ambitious Owner finishing third to knock out many Triple Trio players.
