More than half of Hong Kong and Guangdong residents surveyed by Greenpeace said they were concerned about water pollution along the Pearl River. Thirty-seven per cent of the 1,106 respondents said the water quality was not good, with 83 per cent attributing it to industrial sewage. A Greenpeace spokeswoman said more than 7 million people in Guangdong were drinking water containing copper and mercury.
