Driving me crazy
On the second day of the Lunar New Year, I went with my family to visit our relatives in Shenzhen. After arriving there, we took a taxi. The driver was chatting on his mobile phone throughout, and to make matters worse, he was speeding.
Suddenly the taxi crashed into a car which had stopped in front of us. I hurt my head slightly in the accident while my brother suffered a scratch. While the two drivers argued about who was wrong, we got into another taxi and continued our journey.
To our dismay, the taxi driver demanded that we pay an extra 100 yuan because it was a public holiday. I think mainland taxi drivers are careless and irresponsible. I hope they change their attitude.

Thank you for your letter, Wai-lam. It would be very comfortable to say mainland taxi drivers are careless and irresponsible. But of course, that is generalising. There are Hong Kong drivers who can be just as careless. Very often the drivers here have multiple mobile phones in their cabs. They turn the taxi into a sort of mobile office where they field numerous calls, write down phone numbers and run their business. It all makes for a very unpleasant and noisy ride.
Mobile phones have been a big factor in car accidents. It is time drivers were stopped from using them. What do our readers think?
