Samsung P800

Smartphones

Digital photo frames have been around for a while now, but many of them are just that: photo frames. They don't play videos, or play music, unlike Samsung's new P800.

Equipped with an 8-inch LED display (there's also a 10-inch model), the P800 provides a platform to display digital photos as well as MPEG1 or MPEG4 videos. The P800 even plays back MP3 files, so it's also a music player.

For photos, you get the obligatory slideshow modes, which feature special transition effects and, because the P800 is equipped with stereo speakers, musical soundtracks. The P800 will also automatically resize your photos to fit the 800 x 600 pixel resolution of the display.

Up to 6,000 photos can be stored in the P800's 2G internal memory, which is expandable via SD or SDHC cards.

But displaying photos and playing back videos is only the beginning. The P800 comes with Bluetooth for transferring photos and files to your phone or PC. Alternatively, you can use the USB cable to connect to your PC.

Even better is the fact that the P800 can serve as a second monitor for your PC, extending your virtual desktop with more real estate.

There's even a remote control so you don't have to walk over to switch modes or change albums, and a clock mode.

The P800 is on sale for HK$1,390.

Pros: multimedia playback for MPEG videos, Bluetooth connectivity, second monitor for your PC

Cons: limited internal memory (although expandable)
