Joyce Boutique soiree for Rodarte puts everyone in the mood

Maggie Cheung Man-yuk was in the mood for a party Friday as Joyce Boutique hosted a bash for one of its new brands, Rodarte by Los Angeles sisters Kate (left) and Laura Mulleavy. The two are big movie fans, so to please them, Joyce Boutique introduced them to Cheung. In turn, they created four dresses inspired by movies that starred Cheung - The Heroic Ones, Hero, Clean and In The Mood For Love.

'It's one of my favourite films of all time,' Laura Mulleavy said of the Wong Kar-wai classic In The Mood. Perhaps that explains the choice of an evocative heritage site in Western for the soiree instead of a glitzy sterile Central club. The frocks, which included details made from Swarovski Elements, were also displayed at the Conservancy Association Centre for Heritage on Western Street.

Maybe the Wong Kar-wai connection is also why they invited In The Mood co-star and Shanghai chanteuse Rebecca Pan Di-hua to sing. The Mulleavys were seriously impressed. Meanwhile, a lively and festive Cheung was happy to be the muse for the sartorial tribute. To fill out the entertainment, a two-minute short film by Wing Shya showcased the gowns, while the female designers brought along California songstress Jenny Lewis. The four dresses were auctioned for Unicef.
