Motivation scrapped from Japanese race

INTERNATIONAL Cup winner Motivation has been forced to miss his historic racing mission in Japan.

The John Moore-trained six-year-old was due to become just the second Hong Kong-trained horse to race overseas when contesting a HK$14 million mile event in Japan on May 15.

But he was scratched yesterday after a final and thorough veterinary examination.

Motivation has been troubled by a thickened suspensory ligament since his uplifting International Cup triumph.

Neville Begg is still hoping that his International Bowl victor, Winning Partners, who is on the reserve list for the same race, will get a run.

''We'd definitely like to send him,'' Begg confirmed last night.
