Run focuses on water crisis

Live Earth, a for-profit company that raises funds for green NGOs, is calling on Hongkongers to take part in an event to promote awareness of water shortages and help people who have no access to clean water.

The Dow Live Earth Run for Water is a 6-kilometre run/walk which symbolises the average distance many women and children walk every day to get water. It will take place in 100 cities worldwide on April 18, and follows the World Water Day held last Monday.

There will be live concerts and education activities aimed at starting a global movement to help solve the water crisis.

Many athletes, including swimmer Sherry Tsai Hiu-wai, cyclist Sam Yu Sum-yee and windsurfer Cheng Kwok-fai, will join the activity in Hong Kong. The race will start at 9.30am at Wetland Park Road in Tin Shui Wai and is open to anyone above the age of 16.

A portion of race registration fees will be donated to NGOs to fund sustainable water programmes.
