Casino revenue up 57pc in quarter

Macau casino revenue soared to a near-record 13.569 billion patacas last month, up 42.4 per cent from a year ago and 1.3 per cent higher than February, according to the Macao Daily News. The haul was the city's second-biggest on record after January's 13.937 billion patacas. The rebounding economy and robust liquidity on the mainland have fuelled VIP gambling volumes, while tourist arrivals rose 15 per cent in the first two months this year. First-quarter casino revenue rose 57.2 per cent from a year ago to 40.91 billion patacas, putting Macau on pace to hit a record 160 billion patacas this year.
