Work safety campaign starts today

The mainland will launch a two-month campaign today to inspect workplace safety nationwide, the Work Safety Commission of the State Council said.

A spate of serious accidents recently in some industries had shown negligence and loopholes in workplace safety management and serious violations of laws and rules, a commission circular said.

The inspection will focus on work safety in mines, the chemical industry, transport and fireworks factories, among others. The campaign will include self-examination by enterprises, government inspection and public supervision.

Yesterday, Wang Guozheng, the manager of a coal mine in Henan province where at least 20 miners died and more than 30 are still missing after a massive explosion on Wednesday, turned himself in to the police, Xinhua reported.
