Red tide clouds Silver Mine Bay

A red tide formed at Silver Mine Bay Beach on Lantau on April 4 and dissipated three days later, a government working group reported. No reports of fish dying because of the algal bloom were reported. The group urged fish farmers at Ma Wan and Cheung Sha Wan to closely monitor water quality.

Officer, daughter hurt in crash

An off-duty policeman and his 10-year-old daughter were injured when his motorcycle and a car collided at the junction of Hip Wo Street and Hong Ning Road in Kwun Tong shortly before 1pm. Both were taken to hospital. The officer and the car driver passed breathalyser tests, police said.

Teen critical after suicide attempt

An 18-year-old was fighting for his life in Princess Margaret Hospital after trying to kill himself by jumping onto the West Kowloon Highway from a footbridge outside Olympian City, Mong Kok, at 1pm. Police are investigating his motive.

Eight-year-old succumbs to illness

An eight-year-old boy with a history of illness died after being found unconscious at his home in Ying Fung Lane, Wong Tai Sin, yesterday morning. Police said the death was not suspicious.
