Tough start for HK shuttlers

Hong Kong's Chan Yan-kit (pictured) made it to the last 16 in the men's singles as the Asian championships kicked off in New Delhi yesterday. It was a tough day for the 11th seed, who beat India's Ajay Jayram in three games, 14-21, 21-13, 21-17, in the morning and was fully extended by Japan's Shuhei Hayasaki before winning 21-14, 26-24 in the afternoon. Life was also made difficult for second seed Zhou Mi in the women's singles as the Hong Kong player came back from a game down to oust Maria Yulianti of Indonesia 15-21, 21-18, 21-16.
