People all across China paused to pay their respects to those killed in last week's earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai province. Flags were flown at half-mast as a sign of respect for those who died. In Hong Kong, government officials, the stock exchange and students observed a minute's silence.

The body of Hong Kong quake hero Wong Fuk-wing was returned to the city via Shenzhen. The truck driver rescued four survivors but died during an aftershock when he returned to look for more people.
