Thicker than water

Jin Peh

It is commonly thought that if there is water located to the right of a front door as you look out, it is likely that the man of the house will develop a roving eye. This belief has been propagated by many books but it has no basis in traditional fung shui. The truth is that the only way water can cause a married occupant of a home to stray is if it is located in the romance, or peach blossom, sector, which can be anywhere in a house; not just to the right of the main entrance.

Another myth is that one is able to use complex water-dragon formulas to build drains and artificial waterways that will stimulate wealth. For instance, some people think that if water comes towards your home from a certain direction and exits in another, you will become fabulously wealthy. Some homeowners have spent significant sums of money trying to adhere to these formulas. The methods are not incorrect but they apply only to natural water flows (i.e. rivers), not artificial ones.

Some Yin House fung shui masters apply water-dragon methods when designing graves but this is difficult to do in most countries due to the strict restrictions applied to burial grounds.
