On style, she rules

I've been asking around for short jumpsuits but the sales assistants either pull out shorts or look at me like I'm crazy. Can you help?

Getting It Together, Jardine's Lookout

The Dictator rules: Unless you're model-skinny, you are crazy. We've said it before and we'll say it again, playsuits are tough to pull off. For this one, you'll need to hit the shops with a keen eye and a sharp-tongued friend to find something that looks good. They are out there, though. The raciest, and possibly our favourite, is the skimpy jumper with all-over metal eyelet embellishments by Robert Rodriguez, available in black or beige (HK$3,890; Seibu, Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2971 3838). Armani Exchange has some great options, too, including a super-short navy romper with a chic wide lapel and a more demure, to-the-knee silk romper in black (HK$1,390 each; Times Square, Causeway Bay, tel: 2506 1688). Max & Co's short jumpsuits come in dusty-pink parachute silk (HK$2,780) or cream lace (HK$2,280; 42 Paterson Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 2577 0015). French Connection has done them as overalls in purple (HK$799; Times Square, tel: 2506 2373). If you'd prefer a mini-floral print, have a look at the playsuits in store at Nice Claup (HK$520; Sogo, 555 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2833 8338).

I saw a Dior backpack on eBay but I lost track of it and it sold for a very low US$61.99. I haven't been able to find anything similar since. Where can I get a designer backpack? I did ask at the store but they didn't seem to understand what I was after.

Backpacking, Causeway Bay

The Dictator: No, they understood your question; they were just bewildered that anyone still wants designer backpacks. So are we. It's time to stop. It's also time to realise that you pay for what you get. We're reserving judgment on a designer item selling so far below its original price. If you persist in your quest, you have two options: 1) keep trawling the Net for dubious merchandise; 2) shop at other designer boutiques. Gucci has three styles in the classic GG logo fabric or black leather (HK$5,030 to HK$9,990; Lee Gardens Two, Causeway Bay, tel: 2576 6918). Louis Vuitton has just one, in its monogram canvas (HK$11,700; Lee Gardens, tel: 8100 1182). Prada's version is more understated and sporty, in plain black nylon (HK$6,300; Sogo, tel: 2836 5686).
