NT Heung Yee Kuk Tai Po District Secondary School

Form Six students at the New Territories Heung Yee Kuk Tai Po District Secondary School organised a successful joint department event that involved presenting information in both English and Chinese.

The students set up 12 stalls that featured items that represented traditional Chinese culture.

Visiting lower form students rushed excitedly from stall to stall, eager to try the turnip cake, rice dumplings and Chinese tea.

Another popular stall displayed ancient Chinese military gear. Many jumped when the miniature cannon was fired.

A student at each stall provided information in Chinese. Then, up to four students gave a two-minute English presentation based on the information. English judges for the event were exchange students and native teachers from the United States, Spain, Finland, Denmark, France, Australia and Britain

It was a great day of learning for all.

Sir Ellis Kadoorie Secondary School (West Kowloon)

Sir Ellis Kadoorie Secondary School (West Kowloon) celebrated the academic and extra-curricular achievements of its students on March 19. The Learning Celebrations and PTA Fun Day featured a series of activities which included games, Cantonese poetry recitals and martial arts, dance and music performances.

Yeung Fung Wai-yee, principal education officer of the Education Bureau, was the guest-of-honour.

In his speech, principal Fung Kam-cheung said the school's mission was to develop students' all-round skills and intelligence. He thanked the parents for supporting their children's studies. He believed the close co-operation between the school and parents would enhance the personal growth and academic standard of the students.

The highlight of the morning was an award ceremony where certificates were presented to the parents of children with outstanding academic results.

The afternoon session featured various activities organised by the Parent-Teacher Association and an exhibition of students' work.

Yu Chun Keung Memorial College

Yu Chun Keung Memorial College's Life-wide Learning Day was held on March 19. All Form Three students took part in community services on Peng Chau. They visited the elderly, and cleaned up a school and the beach.

The event gave students a chance to serve the others and experience life on Peng Chau.

In the early morning, students took a ferry to Peng Chau. They received a warm welcome. Some senior residents showed the students and teachers around the island. They started from Lung Mo Temple and walked along the seaside.

They visited a few more temples and some other scenic spots and learned about their history. Afterwards, the group enjoyed lunch at a restaurant.

This was followed by community services. The students were divided into three groups. The first group visited elderly residents who live alone. They spent the afternoon with them and gave them some presents.

The second group cleaned up the empty Chi Yan School and got rid of all the rubbish.

The third group cleaned up the beach with the help of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.

The students left Peng Chau at 3pm, and they all said the event was a rich learning experience.
