Creating a Cartier animal jewellery piece: A step-by-step process

Step 1

All high jewellery begins with a detailed sketch. In the case of an animal motif, the creator would have studied the animals in pictures and at the zoo.

Step 2

The animal is created in a three-dimensional green wax sculpture. It will be cast in precious metal.

Step 3

The jeweller completes the openwork on the metal, fashioning a special piece with the artisan's personality.

Step 4

In most cases, the creation is centred around a specific stone, and the finished product is the result of a team effort between the master craftsmen and designers.
