Acclaimed mainland director Jia Zhangke hopes to cast award-winning actress Maggie Cheung Man-yuk in his upcoming production Shuang Xiong Hui (The Meeting of Two Heroes).

'The movie is set in 1949 in Hong Kong, and I think there is no other actress who can better represent the city,' Jia said. 'I hope she will be moved by my script.'

His latest project, I Wish I Knew, will compete at the Cannes Film Festival this month, the first Chinese documentary to be selected for competition at Cannes. Jia has high hopes for the film, which follows the lives of 18 Shanghai natives to reflect on rapid changes in the mainland's most international city.

'We'd lived a nomadic life, filming in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Taipei, for the entire year,' he said. 'It's a real encouragement to our entire crew that we've entered the Cannes competition.'

I Wish I Knew is expected hit mainland screens in the middle of next month.
