G.O.D. founder recruited to work on renewal projects
Two new board members - the founder of lifestyle store G.O.D and a conservation architect - will join the board of the Urban Renewal Authority after the government announced a small reshuffle yesterday.
Douglas Young Chi-chiu, who trained as an architect, is chief executive officer of G.O.D. His controversial designs include buttock mooncakes and a triad T-shirt.
Philip Liao Yi-kang is an architect specialising in conservation projects. His works include the Bethany Church in Pok Fu Lam and the Hong Kong Anglican Church in Central.
Both were appointed as non-executive directors of the authority yesterday.
The authority's chairman, Barry Cheung Chun-yuen, who has accepted his reappointment by the government, said he expected the two new board members to bring fresh and creative ideas to future projects by the authority.
'Our old districts are ageing quickly. We need a new renewal strategy to tackle the problems ahead,' Cheung said.
Liao said: 'I'm glad to be given a chance to provide a social service. I am aware of the public discontent over renewal projects and I think it is time for me to do some public good. I can see the challenges ahead.'
Two sitting board members were not reappointed - Francis Chau Yin-ming and Agnes Ng Ka-yin. Chau has served the board for six years, while Ng did not accept an offer of reappointment.
