The closest election race
People in Britain went to vote yesterday and should have a new government today. This is the closest fought election for decades. Prime Minister Gordon Brown, of the Labour Party, has never been elected as Britain's leader. He inherited the job from Tony Blair.
Since then he's seen the terrible financial crisis. He's also had to deal with an increasingly unpopular war in Afghanistan than has seen scores of young soldiers come home dead. But a scandal about how members of parliament claimed expenses has left a lot of candidates unpopular.
