Killings involving mentally ill people

January 19 A woman who appeared to be mentally ill killed her 67-year-old mother in a row over money at a public housing block in Sau Mau Ping.

September 23, 2009 A mentally ill man killed his ex-wife with a fruit knife at a Tuen Mun light rail station.

June 25, 2009 A man who was discharged from a psychiatric centre chopped a neighbour over noise.

May 29, 2009 A schizophrenic man, who had been discharged from hospital after psychiatric treatment, chopped a four-year-old boy to death and severely injured the boy's father at an open space outside the Tung Chau Street Temporary Market in Sham Shui Po.

November 27, 2008 A psychotic woman, who had been admitted to hospital after saying she wanted to kill herself and her children, had been discharged less than two days before she killed her teenage son, daughter and herself in their Tsz Wan Shan flat.

October 13, 2008 A woman killed her adopted baby girl by repeatedly dropping her onto the floor at their home, a month before she was due to undergo a psychiatric assessment.

February 25, 2008 A man with severe paranoid schizophrenia killed his mother, who he believed was a Japanese spy, by striking her more than 150 times on the head and neck with a chopper at their Wan Chai home.

August 11, 2007 A man suffering from serious depressive disorder killed a friend by stabbing him 71 times in the stairwell of a hotel in Sha Tin.

June 3, 1982 A mentally disordered man ran into a kindergarten in Un Chau Estate, Sham Shui Po, and chopped four kindergarten children after killing his mother and sister.
