Defeat hits HK's top-two finish hopes

Hong Kong's hopes of finishing in the top two at the Asian Games qualifying tournament in Bangladesh suffered a huge blow when they lost 2-1 to Singapore yesterday. Asghar Ali scored from a penalty corner, but Hong Kong's defence was breached twice as they fell to their first defeat in the competition. With hosts Bangladesh, who they meet tomorrow, likely to provide a stiff test, another loss could see Hong Kong's hopes of a top-two finish evaporate. Hong Kong had beaten Sri Lanka 4-3 and drawn 1-1 with Oman. The top six teams in the seven-team event will qualify for the Guangzhou games in November.
