No more killing tigers

The world's tiger population is shrinking. Why are tigers facing extinction? And what can humans do to save them?

Poachers kill tigers for their skins, which are used to make expensive coats. The coats keep rich people warm. But they are totally unnecessary. There are plenty of alternatives.

Tigers are also under threat because their natural habitats are being destroyed. Forests and trees are being cut down. Their hunting and breeding grounds are being destroyed.

To save tigers from extinction, all we have to do is protect them. Do not kill them and do not destroy their homes. Let them live happily in the world that we share.

Thank you for your letter, Stephanie. One of the biggest threats to tigers is their use in traditional medicine. People believe tiger bones are good for inflammation and making muscles and tendons strong. The central government banned tiger parts from being used in traditional medicine in 1993. Many traditional doctors and medicine manufacturers agreed with and support the ban. But there are many who don't.

It's sad to think that in this day and age there are still people who think a rare creature should die for something they can get from a more sustainable source.
