REGAL boosted their league championship hopes by beating Wing Lun 78-71 at the MacPherson Stadium last night to consolidate their position at the top of Hong Kong's Division A1.

The result assured Regal of being the top team in the regular season with five wins and one defeat, giving them a head start for the play-offs.

Only the top six teams in the league qualify for the play-offs and points are awarded according to their final positions in the regular season - five points going to the top side, four to the second, three to the third, two to the fourth and one each to the bottom two.

Defending champions Seasonal made the cut following a 84-81 victory over Fukien in the second match of last night's double-header after leading 47-41 at half-time.
