Three Colombians, including two asylum seekers, and a Hong Kong man were arrested and HK$1 million worth of cocaine was seized in Causeway Bay early yesterday.

The arrests were made after police received a tip-off about a drug buyer and officers from Wan Chai identified the local man and placed him under 24-hour surveillance.

The surveillance led to the arrest of the Colombians - a man and two women - and seizure of the 700 grams of high-grade cocaine.

Shortly after midnight, the Hong Kong man was seen chatting with a Colombian man in Paterson Street, Causeway Bay, after which they split up. Police arrested the Hongkonger seized two packets of cocaine, while other officers followed the Colombian into the Kingston Building in nearby Kingston Street. At about 1.30am the man came out of the building with two women carrying luggage and police stopped and searched them. A small quantity of cannabis was found on one of the women.

The trio refused to reveal where they stayed in the building. Officers checked security videos and questioned caretakers to find the flat.

Officers with a search warrant raided the flat at about 10am. Inside, police seized 700 grams of high-grade cocaine and packaging equipment.

The four suspects were being held for questioning last night and no one had been charged.
