1. Symphony No 3 - Mahler

I'm a huge fan of Mahler's music, and started listening to it at a very early age. He wrote very long pieces, and a single movement can last 30 minutes. My favourite is the last movement of his third symphony.

2. Atonement

Recently I saw this film and its music seduced me: it's incredibly beautiful and really helps the audience relate to the characters and their emotional turmoil.

3. Cello Suite No 6 - Bach

When I first started to play music I had a fixation on Bach. I adore the busy feeling in Bach's music and the way his ideas keep spinning out. The sixth suite shows his utter genius.

4. Summertime - Miles Davis

I have such admiration for jazz musicians and the way they improvise around themes. Summertime, from Gershwin's opera Porgy and Bess, is a great example of Davis' experimentation.

5. When She Loved Me - Sarah McLachlan

I'm a real sucker for a good ballad, and this song from the film Toy Story 2 tugs the heartstrings! There's a simplicity about the lyrics and melody, and the song is a wonderful tonic.
