Strategic Media chief wins stay of court order

Mainland businessman Qin Hui won a temporary reprieve against a court order to hand over shares in a Sing Pao newspaper shareholding company as part of a deal in which businessman Carson Yeung Ka-sing lent him HK$60 million in 2008. Qin's Strategic Media International made an application to stay the order at the Court of First Instance yesterday. Yeung had won a court order forcing SMI to transfer the shares this month, after applying to the Court of First Instance through his company Billion Wealth Group.

Mother and son held over drugs

A 30-year-old man and his mother, 56, were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking after about 1kg of an illegal drug, believed to be crack cocaine with a street value of HK$1.3 million, was seized in their flat in Tuen Mun. Officers intercepted the man outside King Wah House, Shan King Estate, seizing 87 grams of the drug. In a follow-up raid on his home, police found 42 packs of the drug and arrested his mother.

Trio arrested for fake goods

Police arrested three men, aged from 30 to 51, and seized fake handbags and watches, and pornographic video discs, with a street value of HK$1.26 million when officers raided three shops in Fa Yuen Street and two flats in Tung Choi Street, Mong Kok.

Policewoman injured

A policewoman suffered a wrist injury after falling off her motorcycle when she braked to avoid being hit by a flying plastic bottle in Yau Ma Tei. The bottle was flung into the air after being run over by a truck at the junction of Lai Cheung Road and Ferry Street, police said. The sergeant was treated for minor injuries at Kwong Wah Hospital.

Anti-vice raids in Yau Ma Tei

Police arrested three local men and seven mainland women in an anti-vice crackdown on two buildings in Temple Street and Woosung Street, Yau Ma Tei. The operation was mounted at about 9pm on Wednesday after a tip-off. The seven women were held for breaching the conditions of their stays. The three men were arrested on suspicion of managing a vice establishment.
