Roque by Ilaria Nistri
Who started it? Fashion designer Ilaria Nistri was born in Florence, Italy. She studied law and, after graduating, joined the family's textile business, where she worked until 2005. She then embarked on a series of travels, which inspired her to design a line of clothing. Launched in 2006, her eponymous label features specially developed fabrics with unique finishes and treatments, on silhouettes inspired by volumes and proportions. The line is available at stores such as Ron Herman in Los Angeles and Tsum in Moscow, and has been featured in publications such as Italian Vogue. This season she has launched a diffusion line called Roque.
Why we love it: Roque follows the same themes and styles as the main line but converts them into wearable and versatile pieces with affordable price tags. Each design is meant to be mixed and matched with whatever is in the owner's wardrobe and combines a punk edge with sophistication. Nistri uses hi-tech fabrics that feel like a second skin - many feature unique brushstroke prints and unusual textures. The beauty is in the details, from asymmetrical draping to unusual fastenings. Look for shirts, short dresses, tank tops, wide tops and cardigans in colours such as white, black, powder and stone.
What we'd pick: the grey tank with sleeves that tie around the waist (right; HK$1,900). The grey silk dress with a speckle print at the hem (HK$2,700) will go effortlessly from day to night.
Where can you get it? Roque is available exclusively at Uma Miy, 1/F, 9 On Lan Street, Central, tel: 2869 1269.
