True Light Middle School

True Light has been established for 138 years and has kept up its hard work in Hong Kong and Guangzhou all these years. A grand celebration was held at True Light Middle School on May 1.

Reverend So Sing-yat, the school board chairman of True Light Middle School, delivered a sermon to remind everyone of the school motto - to be the lights to the world and act as a candle.

Principals from other True Light schools in Hong Kong and Guangzhou and students from Guangzhou True Light School received a warm welcome.

The Campus TV Station and the interactive e-platform for liberal studies between our school and our sister schools in Guangzhou were launched. And a time capsule was buried in our garden. It will be opened on our 155th anniversary.

We are proud of our founder Harriet Noyes' effort in fighting for women's education in China 138 years ago.

NT Heung Yee Kuk Tai Po District Secondary School

Some Secondary Two and Three students from New Territories Heung Yee Kuk Tai Po District Secondary School took part in City University's 'Promote Chinese Culture Day' last month.

The aim of the event was to help overseas students gain a better understanding of Chinese culture. The students conducted interviews with visiting overseas students from France, America and Australia.

The question of what Chinese food the overseas visitors liked most generated some lively discussion. Most students found it difficult to have to choose just one, as the choices were all popular.

The students then presented the visitors with small handmade souvenirs.

The Tai Po students said the experience boosted their confidence in speaking English.

SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School

To help students improve their language skills, SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School held its English Activity Days from April 21 to 23. During the period, the campus was immersed in an English atmosphere.

The event began with an English assembly in the school hall. Performances by champions of the junior and senior group singing contest added colour to the assembly.

Afterwards, a video on Hong Kong's culture was shown.

The next day, students were asked to complete riddle worksheets. Those who had the correct answers received small prizes. After school, there was a friendly English debate with Ho Fung College. It was a great learning experience.

Scholar and journalist Claudia Mo gave an educational talk titled 'Living English' on the last day after school. She offered students numerous tips to improve their English.

A group game was also held in the playground. Students practised English skills they had learned in a relaxing manner.

The three days were a great success, thanks to the hard work of the organising committee and all the teachers.
