John Moore made a hit-and-run visit to Newmarket races on Friday to watch a prospective import given a poor ride, but also had a couple of days to look over Happy Zero and work the star sprinter over a famous gallop. 'Happy Zero is staying at Kinsclere with Andrew Balding, whose father, Ian, trained the great Mill Reef many years ago,' Moore said. 'So we took Happy Zero up in the float and worked him on the very same gallops the other morning. A nice sense of history to it all.' Happy Zero worked over a solid five furlongs, Moore said, and the gelding confirmed he is well ahead of next month's Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. 'He ran it in about a minute and Ian Balding told me it looked good work for that particular gallop, and the horse pulled up great after it,' Moore said. 'As for the horse I went to see at Newmarket, well, let's just say he didn't get the best of runs in the race and he was the best performance in it, even though he didn't win.'
