Carina Lau embraces solitude as hubby toughs it out on location

Actress Carina Lau Kar-ling says she has learned to appreciate solitude. This is just as well since husband Tony Leung Chiu-wai has been away for long stretches to film Yip Man, The Grand Master, Wong Kar-wai's take on the life of the kung fu master.

'I enjoy spending time by myself - so peaceful, so quiet,' the 44-year-old said. 'I don't regret spending time with friends when I was younger, but now I'm at a different place [in life], and busy lifestyle only messes with my mind.'

In Harbour City on Monday to launch French luggage brand Delsey's latest collection, Lau (pictured) was presented with a personalised crystal-studded case. But she will not be making use of it soon. Lau does not plan to visit Leung, who has been shooting on the mainland for nearly two months, after they agreed not to distract each other during filming.

'It would be a lie if I told you I didn't miss Tony but keeping a distance might be a good thing for both of us,' she said.

But she stays in touch via webcam. 'He's lost a few pounds because the filming is pretty tough. On the bright side, he has become very fit - I've never seen someone so fit like him at his age.'
