The MTR Corp has improved signage at major East Rail stations - including putting a large yellow arch on the first-class platform at Fo Tan station to warn passengers of the higher fare. In a 27-month period up to early this year, more than 22,000 passengers were each fined HK$500 for riding in a first-class carriage with regular tickets. Instructions were also added to ticketing machines at border stations to teach mainland visitors how to buy single-journey tickets.
