It's back to Whyte's lair, where Prebble has a need for Speed
Happy Valley on Wednesday was a vital night for Douglas Whyte in his quest for a 10th straight championship, winning the battle with Brett Prebble 2-1, but the key meetings are every meeting for the Demon.
Prebble (86 wins) remains in the garden spot, six in front with 89 races to run, and today lines up with one more mount than Whyte but returning to the Durban Demon's lair at Sha Tin.
Unusually for a Sha Tin fixture, the John Size team is not bristling with warm favourites throughout the day, but Whyte will be aboard unbeaten Entrapment for the leading yard in the eighth, as well as well-fancied Bejeweled in the following event and has found some nice rides elsewhere to make him favourite to come out on top again.
As always, a win for Prebble though is almost two - one more he has and one more Whyte has to find in a diminishing number of races to come - and the Australian looks likely to advance his dominant position this season in the cellar events.
It is not a title jockeys necessarily strive to acquire, but Prebble is far and away the 'King Of Class Five' this term, winning at 13 of his 60 rides in the grade and, where championships are concerned, every win counts.
And Prebble has a crucial mount with the humble Speed Racer likely to start a clear favourite in the Class Five fourth after finally drawing a better barrier.
