Window faults prompt closer scrutiny

More random checks on the workmanship and quality of materials for window components supplied for Housing Authority projects have been imposed after some 100,000 windows in blocks at Lam Tin and Upper Ngau Tau Kok estates had to be fixed because of substandard hinges. The repair work is expected to be completed by August. Tenants had complained that some crank mechanisms were rusted or damaged although they were only about a year old.
