Ella Koon finds a way to escape the shutterbugs - all men will have to make their own way home

Canto-pop star Ella Koon Yan-na (pictured) reckons she has found a way to escape Hong Kong's paparazzi. The 30-year-old star has decided not to drive with men - and that includes her boyfriend, whom she didn't name.

'My boyfriend and I drive our own cars when we go on a date,' the singer said at Tuesday's opening of Mitsubishi Motors' new showroom in Wan Chai's Chinachem Century Tower. 'Who knows what [the paparazzi] would write about if [they] took a picture of us in the same car?'

Koon said she had even banned her brother from riding in her car. 'My brother's pretty good-looking. I was afraid the media [might] portray him as my new boyfriend. That would be awkward,' she said.

Koon's revelation seemed unexpected at an event where Mitsubishi Motors also launched the two-litre Outlander - a HK$239,900 multipurpose vehicle that has seven seats for seven brothers, colleagues or boyfriends. But then, few motor traders would complain if camera-shy stars such as Koon bought one car for themselves and another for any men they might not want to give a lift to.
