Impressive Mighty High can run his rivals ragged
Punters face some very short odds in the two features at Sha Tin today, but they may at least be able to get on Mighty High in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Trophy (2,000m).
The Juvenile Sprint Trophy looks a formality for Entrapment, but he will be an appropriate price as he seeks an historic seventh win for the term, however, Mighty High (Jeff Lloyd) later in the day should be at slightly better odds and reward punters who are prepared to stick with him despite defeat as a hot favourite last start.
The John Moore-trained four-year-old had been bought as a possible Derby horse this season, but injury set him back and put an end to that dream. Nevertheless, he looks a nice horse for next season in what he has shown in just three outings.
Two starts ago, he was able to take up the running over 1,800m in Class Three and trounced his rivals under a big weight and that looks a key reference for this race.
Since then, Mighty High was given a perfect ride when run down in the final stages by Yu Lue Treasure in Class Two over 1,600m.
Perhaps those who backed him there will have their doubts. The winner was long odds but has shown on a number of occasions he is endowed with plenty of ability himself, and Mighty High gave Yu Lue Treasure 14 pounds in the weights.
As mentioned earlier, his ability to take up the front looks a winning talent in the six-horse field, with none of Mighty High's rivals noted front runners, which should ensure Lloyd is able to dictate terms.
The gelding has been a touch keen at times but Moore has added a crossed nose band to his gear to improve that situation and Mighty High shouldn't be troubled by the wet - he is by Peintre Celebre out of a Linamix mare and all of that says wet tracker.
The Derek Cruz-trained Best Friend (Howard Cheng Yue-tin) looks a potential knockout horse as he will likely take a position in the box seat from his draw in barrier two.
He didn't do enough behind Vaugirard in Class Two when having his first run for Cruz last time out over 1,600m, but that was his first outing for six weeks due to the change of stables and he should strip fitter.
