28 pupils injured in collision

Twenty-eight pupils, 10 to 13 years old, and a minibus passenger were injured in a collision between a school bus and minibus in Tai Mong Tsai Road near the junction with Fung Sau Road, Sai Kung, at about 1.15pm yesterday. The 13 boys and 15 girls, and a woman, 25, were discharged after treatment at Tseung Kwan O Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital and United Christian Hospital. Police said both drivers, aged 51 and 61, were unhurt and passed breathalyser tests.

Hunt for trio after attack

Police are looking for three men after a man was attacked by a group armed with bottles and a laundry pole, with a fork in one end, in Reclamation Street, Yau Ma Tei, at about 2.15pm. The victim, 34, suffered head injuries and was in critical condition after surgery in Queen Elizabeth Hospital last night.

Officers hurt in clash with drunk

Two policemen were injured while subduing a drunken man in Kwun Tong. The incident happened at the junction of Hip Wo Street and Mut Wah Street at about 1am after a taxi driver, 50, was assaulted by his drunken passenger, 41. The officers were treated for minor injuries at United Christian Hospital.

75pc of drivers admit speeding

Seventy-five per cent of local drivers surveyed admitted they had sped more than 10km/h above the legal limit, and 68 per cent admitted they had run through an amber light, according to a road safety survey by AXA General Insurance Hong Kong in March and April, when 518 drivers were polled. Seventy-five per cent were concerned about tailgating, but 52 per cent admitted they had done that. Almost 70 per cent said they felt safe on the roads.

Pay rise for scaffolding workers

About 4,000 licensed and unlicensed scaffolding workers in the city will enjoy a rise in daily wages from HK$850 to HK$900 starting on Thursday, after their union - the Hong Kong and Kowloon Bamboo Scaffolding Workers Union - reached a deal with the Hong Kong and Kowloon Scaffolders General Merchants Association. Union head Ho Ping-tak said they had proposed a HK$100 rise in negotiations since last year but conceded yesterday to avoid dragging the issue out.
