China Mobile wins right to offer TV services

China Mobile

China Mobile yesterday won a landmark public auction on the right to offer broadcast-type mobile TV services across Hong Kong, the Office of the Telecommunications Authority said. The carrier, which runs non-3G wireless provider China Mobile Peoples Telephone, will pay the government a spectrum utilisation fee worth HK$175 million and submit a performance bond so it can broadcast mobile TV services on the 678-686MHz band. The 15-year licence mandates China Mobile to cover at least 50 per cent of the city.
