Douglas Whyte was crunched into $2.10 in the opening minutes of Jockey Challenge betting last night after opening an equal $2.40 favourite with premiership leader Brett Prebble.

Astute punters were quick to gobble up the value about Whyte, who clawed his way right back into the premiership duel with Prebble thanks to a terrific five-timer at Sha Tin last Sunday.

Whyte once again has a fantastic book of chances at Sha Tin today and kicks off with likely favourite Ho Happy, who has been threatening to win a straight 1,000m race all season for trainer Sean Woods.

Bayview Greyslew and The Rifle can help consolidate an early lead for Whyte, who unusually rides the latter at 115 pounds and gets down even further to ride at 114 pounds later in the card.

Boyz Rock is a likely improver over the 1,400m journey and trainer Caspar Fownes has also decided to switch him to the bigger track to make use of a promising sprint he has shown in unsuitable races at Happy Valley.

The scratching of Kowloon Pride leaves Whyte without a mount in race five, but it will give him a chance to have a breather before he launches into a spectacular back half of the card.

North Hill, London China Town, Glory Of India, Ejimeric Te Specso and Enriched will make the Durban Demon almost unstoppable in the Challenge and these rides were no doubt the reason the early money flooded in to support the nine-time champion rider.
