Officials suspended over mine accidents

Three top city officials have been suspended over coal mine accidents in Pingdingshan and Luoyang in Henan province, CCTV reported. The Henan Communist Party commission announced that the mayor of Pingdingshan, Li Endong, and the deputy mayor in charge of production safety, Li Junfeng, as well as Luoyang's deputy mayor in charge of production safety, Shen Qinghuai, should be suspended over the three accidents. At least 164 people were killed in the mine blasts, two of which were in Pingdingshan. In one of the Pingdingshan blasts, the mine had been operating illegally.
