A longer drug test
The government's narcotics advisory committee is considering a six-month extension to the drug testing trial in Tai Po schools to gather more information on the scheme's effectiveness. The scheme, carried out in 23 Tai Po secondary schools from December 2009, has found no positive cases among the 1,975 students randomly selected for the test.
Professor Daniel Shek Tan-lei, chairman of the Action Committee Against Narcotics, said it might be worth considering extending the scheme for six months. 'If the trial could last a year, it could possibly indicate any seasonal change in drug abuse among students.'
