Lawyer fined for growing cannabis

Austin Chiu

A lawyer who grew cannabis at his mother's home was fined HK$10,000 yesterday. Lee Kok-hing, 55, had admitted cultivating 73 cannabis plants and possessing cannabis seeds. He grew the plants, which weighed a total of 190 grams, at his mother's home in New Market Street, Central, between the end of 2008 and December 5 last year. His mother was not told. Eastern Court magistrate Adriana Tse spared Lee a jail term because of a positive report by a probation officer and mitigation letters from Lee's family and friends. Tse said Lee should be thankful for the support of his wife, his mother and his friends.
