Horological hipsters encouraged to wear Swatches galore

Swatch's Yun Ping Road store could be mobbed with fashionistas on Saturday afternoon if the Swiss watchmaker's latest promotion continues to click. The brand is inviting its fans to turn up to its designated stores wearing any number of its hip, plastic watches in the most creative way. Swatch staff will then photograph the competitors and upload the pictures to the brand's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/SwatchHK) for online voting until July 18. The winner of five Swatch watches worth HK$860 each will be announced three days later.

The competition drew 80 of Kowloon's hippest to Swatch's Tsim Sha Tsui booth on the Star Ferry Pier, and Swatch organisers expect a similar crowd at the Causeway Bay outlet between 2pm and 6pm on Saturday. Swatch spokesman Nancy Tse challenged competitors to match her creativity. 'You should think out of the box to come up with million-dollar ideas,' she said. 'I wore a string of watches as bangles to go with a dark-coloured qi pao.'
