A man who shocked the nation after shooting dead two police officers point-blank was arrested on Thursday in downtown Xiamen , Fujian province.

Hu Yihua , 29, was arrested four days after he killed two policemen in the city of Jieyang in Guangdong, the Guangzhou Daily reported.

He had murdered two people in Zhejiang province before he killed the two officers. Police also suspect he was involved in two other killings in Jiangxi province .

Hu smiled at Xiamen police when he was arrested, according to the report.

'How did you guys manage to track me down so fast?' the paper quoted Hu as saying when he was arrested. Hu confessed to police that he had 'shot dead some people in Zhejiang and stolen a car', the paper said.

Hu was to be taken for interrogation to Jieyang, where he shot dead traffic policemen Zhou Xilai and Huang Weijiang point-blank, the paper said.

Hu, a former businessman in Jinhua, Zhejiang, claimed he had bought a handgun from the Golden Triangle, near the border of Yunnan province, two years ago.
