Jockeys to steal spotlight from movie stars

The final Sha Tin meeting of the season sees the Jockey Club giving away free pens as well as scratch-and-win games while singers and movie stars will entertain the crowd, but the unscripted thrills of a stunning jockeys' championship will be the major entertainment. The races are slipping away, just 19 remain as Brett Prebble strives to pull back the two-win lead of Douglas Whyte and he won't want to be going to the last Happy Valley fixture needing miracles.

The pair have won 35 of the past 100 races, Whyte winning 22 of those, but Prebble has had a rare drought at Sha Tin and has not ridden a winner there for 44 rides, since El Morro on June 16.

Prebble has dominated at Happy Valley, but there will be only eight chances to pull back the margin if he goes there with a deficit in midweek.

Now is the moment for Prebble's resurgence at Sha Tin and he faces a familiar avalanche of Whyte-hot favourites from the John Size yard, but stranger things have happened. Size produced an even stronger line-up on the final day last season as he chased a championship of his own, only to see six hot favourites bite the dust.

For Prebble that last meeting will be crucial. For Whyte, this can all be over today. He hasn't scored less than three wins at Sha Tin lately and a repeat to put him four or five ahead with eight to play will consign the title race to history.
