Recruitment day draws crowds
Some 1,850 applicants attended a police recruitment day yesterday at police headquarters in Wan Chai. Among the hopefuls, 425 were put through initial selection procedures for the position of inspector while 1,425 applied for police constable, undergoing eyesight tests and group interviews. Those successful go onto further selection procedures later this month and would begin training at the police college in November. Many attending the recruitment day said the stable income and good prospects offered by the force are attractive. The police plan to recruit 1,232 new staff members in the 2010 fiscal year, of which 150 will be inspectors and 1,082 police constables. The force has received 6,647 applications since the start of April.
